All the classic elements were there, including some fun small details. I fell in love with the characters immediately, and the romance was definitely swoon worthy. I loved the way it wrapped up. The rest of the story wasn't completely wrapped up, though. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Jan 17, Roberta Curmi rated it liked it.
Jun 10, Kathy Heare Watts rated it it was amazing Shelves: Take a former Navy Seal, Gideon, who after an injury had to give up his military career and move back to Texas to run the family ranch. While going to the airport to pick up his brother Matt who is home on leave, he noticed a banging in the back of the truck. What a shock to find a freezing woman in an evening gown stowed away. Princess Alessandra of Glorvaird is on the run and in hiding after an assassination attempt on her life in New York that killed her bodyguard.
Gideon is on full alert to try and keep her safe until her security team says it is ok to come home. The plot has two people, from two different lifestyles thrown together in a life and death situation. Allie, as they are calling her is anything but a spoiled Princess. She cooks and cleans in his home and never makes demands.
But how can two people, two different countries, two different lifestyles, and agendas make a relationship work?
When there is love involved, you are more willing to find the path and make it work. This is a sweet, clean story with charming characters, entertaining dialog and an HEA ending. I look forward to reading more in this series. I was provided with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jan 13, Brittany rated it it was amazing. I have listened to the first two books in the series so far, and I highly recommend them! The narration is very good. And the story…well these books are combining a couple of my favorite things to read about.. It seems like a funny mix, but the author does a great job of creating seemingly realistic scenarios Lately I have begun listening to the Cowboy Fairytales series by Lacy Williams.
It seems like a funny mix, but the author does a great job of creating seemingly realistic scenarios and characters, which make the events that occur in the books totally believable to me. It has just been such a joy to listen to these stories. Once Upon a Cowboy is the first book of the series and the two main characters, Alessandra and Gideon, were so easy to connect with. Their backstories were interesting and the attraction that began to bloom between them was perfect. I love fairytale princess novels for the happy feelings they leave me with and Once Upon a Cowboy did just that.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Two great novellas in one sweet deal! The characters were well written, the story had a nice pace and it was a fun read! If you like sweet romances, fairytale retelling and just an overall good, quick read you should give this one a shot! I am really looking forward to the rest of this series! Feb 01, Kristen rated it liked it Shelves: A princess, a ex-navy seal now cowboy and someone who is targeting the royal family.
Jun 05, HeatherJay rated it it was ok. Not a fan of novellas. Snow White What a cute twist on an old fairytale.
I love romance and this may be short but worth it. Feb 15, Jo-Anne rated it it was amazing Shelves: The blurb for this story sounded good but when it included an ex-SEAL turned cowboy with a princess on the run, I just had to read it. This story starts off exciting right away with an assassination attempt on Princess Alessandra.
When she goes on the run, ending up hiding in the back of Gideon's truck in Texas and he finds her, he wants to know what she's doing there. Lucky for her Gideon doesn't recognize her but his marine brother who is with him does. It's hard to think of this as a fairy tale The blurb for this story sounded good but when it included an ex-SEAL turned cowboy with a princess on the run, I just had to read it.
It's hard to think of this as a fairy tale type story because of the dangerous situations Alessandra gets in. She couldn't have picked a better truck to hide in, though. Gideon is a bit rough around the edges but a very good man. Alessandra is a surprise. She has always lived in a palace with every minute planned for her. So sometimes she's at a loss for what to say or do. But she digs in at the ranch, making herself useful in the kitchen. Her hard work and caring personality make her well liked by the ranch hands.
Before long, Gideon and Alessandra have fallen for each other.
Even though this story ends nicely, there are lots of unanswered questions leaving openings for more books in this series that I can't wait to read. Mar 24, Cheesecake rated it really liked it Shelves: I got this for free in exchange for a fair review through Audiobook Boom. The audiobook is read by Lara Ashmundson, who does a fair job. Allessandra the perfect homemaker and Gideon the controlling curmudgeon.
That sounds snarky I know, but I actually liked both MCs. The story is a spin on Snow White but you aren't sure who fills the role of the evil queen, as that mystery will no doubt run through the whole series. The film may be arguing that it is best to not trust domestic spaces at all, for it is in a house that Sally is attacked, and it is out in the wild that she finds protection.
While Sally escapes with her life, the film ends on a similar note as Halloween. Sally watches from the truck, hysterical, as Leatherface waves his chainsaw around. He is not dead. He is still out there. In conclusion, both of these examples of the slasher genre contain compelling commentary about the American home and about the role of sexuality within the home.
The changing role of women in this time scared people, and so it is fitting that scary movies would be made about it. When watching this film, it is best to forget the vampire context entirely and instead judge it with fresh expectations: not as a horror or romance movie, but as a film reframing human loneliness.
Oskar, the protagonist, with his elvish white hair and equally pale skin, is the perfect picture of adolescent frailty. Nothing conveys loneliness better than the spindly twelve-year old kid being viciously assaulted by school bullies. He is entirely defenseless against his tormentors, and when set against the stark landscape of Swedish winter, his despair is painfully palpable.
Despite showing hints of nascent homicidal tendencies, such as collecting newspaper clippings of murder cases and habitually play-acting stabbing his bullies, Oskar and his alienation in his divorced home background and complete friendlessness stirs our own childhood memories of loneliness.

First, by poring over the murder-case newspaper clippings and recreating himself as a brutal avenger in his imagination, then by selecting Eli as his physical deity. Eli becomes his messiah, in a fitting reflection of her namesake, the Biblical prophet Eli. It is a clear portrayal of carnal longing, the desire to fill an inner loneliness, that we, by nature, can fully identify with.
Here, the real enemy is not violence nor the loss of morality, as many gore-ridden films are prone to depicting, but isolation. Isolation is the ultimate enemy that everyone fights individually, regardless of situation or social position.
